Rock n Roll Bride - The ultimate guide for alternative brides

Balloons

Sweet Tooth

Kat

December 2, 2009

I actually featured newbie photographer Shannon McLaughlin's own wedding waaaay back in February - many of you may recognise her as Mrs Candy Corn from Wedding Bee. Well, like many of us recent brides, the thought of giving up all things wedding once she'd tied the knot was too much to bear so she decided to venture into wedding photography herself...and oh how pleased we are that she did! She has only had her professional camera for a little over a month and look how awesome she is already! The recently engaged Veronika & Bryan acted as models for this shoot. Veronika owns her own vintage shop called Sweet Tooth Vintage through the fabulous Etsy so she had lots of amazing outfits to wear. I am also loving the various props and locations used for this shoot - an environmental centre in Philadelphia, the couple's own home (including their insane number of pets!) and a cuuuute tandem bike! A Huge Rock n Roll thank you ro Shannon for sharing her work and this amazing couple. I am so excited to see more of her in future! ps go check out her blog - it's super duper cute! Prop City

Kat

November 27, 2009

Funfairs may have been 'done' in terms of what the cool kids say is 'in' but who gives a monkey's about what they think? It's the same with balloons, candy floss and even sun flair...pah I say to that! The funfair is the perfect backdrop for an engagement shoot - fun, colourful, playful and prop city! I want a photo shoot in at a fun fair in fact. Any offers?! Can't get enough of this beautiful stuff? Well go check out Sandy & John's gallery right here Thanks to Shannon for sharing this adorably perfect session Credit: Shannon Nicole Smith

Rubbered & Brightly Coloured

Kat

November 27, 2009

Please forgive me procrastination as I bring to you this random but overtly lovely post all about my favourite prop - the humble balloon! I should be doing some proper writing right now (deadline booo!) but I got all distracted by all this rubbered and brightly coloured goodness whilst on my internet travels today I guess apart from all the prettiness I wanted to show how much variety there is in this darling little prop. I hope I have inspired you for your next balloon based photo shoot. Balloons been done? Pah! There's way more life in these little treasures yet... So..tell me, what are your favourite balloon pictures you've seen recently?

Caught the Light

Kat

October 30, 2009

The wedding had 'colours and music' as its theme and invites (as well as table plates) arrived as personalised vinyl discs with the event details printed on them. Tara & Lawrence are a supercool, young and individual couple and chose bridesmaids in bright block colour dresses, red details (Zara & Vivienne Westwood shoes) and a dress designed by her friend Joleen Lawrence. They had their ceremony at Davenport House in Greenwich and we then headed over to Greenwich park for 10 minutes in the sunshine. I brought balloons along as I had in mind a particular photo I wanted to get and I think it worked out well. Lawrence took Tara back to see their guests on piggyback, before we all walked over to Greenwich bar & kitchen for dinner.

Pillow Fight

October 23, 2009

I saw a feathery sneak peak of Mary & Stephan's engagement session on their wedding coordinator's website and immediately shot and email to Erin & Court asking if I could blog them when they were all ready. Lucky for me they were of course delighted and I got the email this morning to tell me they were up. I knew they were going to be good because of the hilarious and fun 'pillow fight' scene, yet I wasn't expecting the rest - the balloons, the guitar playing, the balloons, the fun fair..eeek. These are just perfect! A massive, huge and ginormous thank you to Erin & Court for letting me be the one to share these simple beautiful images! Credit: Erin Hearts Court

Rock n Roll Perfect

Kat

October 22, 2009

It doesn't get more Rock n Roll perfect than this! Sommer & Dan's wedding took place in an old mill is Somerset, New Jersey which is owned by Dan's parents. The bride wore a 1950s prom dress from Ebay and snakeskin Kate Spade shoes. The groom rocked it in a custom suit with spiderweb lining and the bridesmaids looked the part in leopard print shoes. To top off the day, Bruce, the family pet rooster, served as ring bearer and apparently he did a great job! Thanks to Siobhan for sharing this awesome wedding with us...Ooooh I adore my readers! When I received a sweet email from Lizeth & Rafter asking if I'd like to check out their engagement session I was shocked to discover that their super modest and a-a-amazingly talented photographer Broin Hopkins had never submitted any of his work to a blog before! Blog land has seriously been missing out! I am over the moon and uber excited to be the first blog to share his work and this session in particular. Aren't Lizeth & Rafter such a cool couple!? She is a photograher herself and he is a music master. Rock n Roll indeed! Broin - get submitting your work to blogs - they will go nuts for stuff like this. Thanks to Lizeth & Rafter for not only sharing their session but for introducing me to one of my new favourite photographers! Credit: Broin Hopkins

Retrospective

October 15, 2009

Newlywed's Bianca & Sean got married in Cape Town (where they have now lived for 10 years) at a gorgeous restaurant called Pure at Hout Bay Manor. The wedding was based on a vintage/retrospective theme. The Bridesmaids all chose their own sleek black dresses and the boys wore skinny ties and sharp black suits. Bianca looked every bit the vintage princess in a custom made silver satin and lace wedding gown made by local couturier Cindy Bam and a vintage 1920s hat and veil.

*The* Carnival Wedding

Kat

September 28, 2009

I'm sure most of blog land will have seen and heard of The Langs before without even knowing it. Their engagements, wedding, portraits and anniversary shoot (all photographed by the uber talent that is Sloan Photographers) have certainly made the rounds and with huge justification. Yes. Wow. So you can imaging my excitement and surprise to get an email from Stacie, one half of the duo to let me know that her and Geoff have ventured into wedding photography themselves and would I like to be the first blog to share some of their work...erm Hell to the YES I would. I predict big things for these guys. Mark my words, blog land will be all over these two within a matter of weeks. Anyway, lets get onto the actual wedding they sent me and boy is it a beauty. Kerri & Kyle had a carnival themed wedding and I'm not talking a few little touches - I mean full out actual carnival awesomeness! The couple did everything themselves and on a very small budget but they had the full works - An actual balloon lady, bubbles, cotton candy, photo booth, popcorn, soda bar, candy bar and of course lots of dancing! AAAAmazing. Stacie & Geoff I am honoured that you have sent your first submission to little old me. Eeek...love love love. Thank you so much for being so freakin' awesome. Credit: Lang Photographers
