After a cliff top proposal, Abbi & Jools, who met while working at the Cadbury factory, planned their 5* boutique wedding at The Hempel Hotel, London.

“Jools and I met 8 years ago, when we both started working for Cadbury. Clearly, having a Cadbury chocolate/sweetie bar at the wedding was obligatory!” Abbi explained. “We got engaged in Australia, on a cliff top on the Great Ocean Road, while sitting on a bench and eating some delicious cake. When Jools said ‘I’ve got a question to ask you’, I replied ‘Do you want the rest of my cake?’ Usually he would have jumped at the opportunity – but instead went down on one knee… to which I responded ‘oh my God oh my God oh my God… where shall I put the cake?’ I put it on the ground. It was fine. I ate it later.”

“Our wedding day was the best day of my life. I thought I would be nervous, and I was worried I would cry (I’m a bit of a blubber at other people’s weddings), but as soon as I started walking down the aisle with my Dad, I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face. I just wanted to throw my arms around Jools – but when I reached the front and tried to kiss him, he refused because we weren’t married yet! By the end of our wedding day, my face was aching with grinning so much. When we got our beautiful wedding photos back, you can see the exact expression I was pulling all day!”

“I’m not terribly creative, but I did a little bit of DIY,” Abbi continued. “I made all the name tags we used for place settings. My favourite wedding purchse may have been the heart-shaped hole punch I used before tying on the ribbons. At dinner, I went round pointing out the heart shaped holes to everyone. No one else had noticed. I did. They made me happy.”

“Jools and I have been lucky enough to be invited to a LOT of friends’ weddings – about 19 in the past few years.” she concluded. “I’ve been bridesmaid at 5, witness at 2, a reader at one, photographer at one… basically, we’re wedding pros! We’ve been to all different types – churches, castles, country houses, barns, hotels…but mostly fairly traditional. We just wanted ours to be a bit different – so we decided on a city chic, boutique hotel, slightly quirky feel. Basically, we just wanted it to be a really fun party with great food, great booze and great music!”

“Colour-scheme wise, I guess it was black and white with flashes of colour. The guests were all in black tie, the venue was fairly monochrome, the bridesmaids dresses were all different versions of the little black dress… and then there was my dress. The most fun dress in the world. God I love that dress. Clearly I couldn’t tell Jools about the dress beforehand, but I just knew it was perfect for the feel we were going for. The 50s style, the black and white…. Wearing it blew me away – and everyone else fell over themselves to say how much they loved it. I felt like a movie star. And it was great to dance and spin around in, unlike the more traditional, restrictive long dresses I tried on. Plus it gave me a genuine excuse (as if I needed one) to buy some Christian Louboutins… you could see my feet! I was nervous that my outfit would look too OTT, that Jools would fall about laughing when he saw me – but it was the best decision I ever made.”

I was hanging out at Fur Coat No Knickers a few weeks ago catching up on my vintage fashion/wedding industry-based gossip, when in breezed an excited girl who had just got married in one of their beautiful wedding dresses. Naomi had popped back in to show Laura & Emma some of her wedding photos and as soon as I heard the words ‘wedding photos’ I immediately jumped out from behind the dresses to have a nosy myself (Poor Naomi, I must have given her a heart attack…turns out she was a regular reader of this little wedding blog throughout her planning!)

Anyway I loved the photos Naomi showed us on her phone, so when I received the submission from her photographer Sarah Lauren I was thrilled that I would be able to share them with you too!

Naomi married Chris in London on 1st October. After getting ready at the gorgeous Charlotte Street Hotel, Naomi and her bridal party hopped in a London black cab to Islington town hall for the ceremony. Following the marriage service, the newlyweds and their guests all jumped into a red London bus, which they hired from Routemaster Hire, and headed to 6 Fitzroy Square for their beautiful reception.

“October 1st was freakishly one of the hottest days of the year. The atmosphere in Fitzrovia was animated with London nightlife,” Naomi told me, “We tried to keep our wedding theme fun-loving, relaxed and really styled to our personalities; we had moustaches on sticks for the wedding guests to play with. We also gave them fortune–teller fish as favours. I handmade the cake toppers and Chris stayed true to his comic book roots and wore crazy Spiderman cufflinks which I bought him!”

“We love our hometown London and there was a definite London theme throughout with the Routemaster bus, the central venues and the cosmopolitan wedding party. Even though it was a very London-esque wedding, we had family and friends visiting from the USA, Australia and even the Scottish Highlands! We felt so flattered that our guests travel from far and wide to witness our special day.”

6 Fitzroy Square is literally down the road from the Charlotte Street Hotel where we were staying, so after the evening do at Fitzroy Square we thought it would be lovely to take a walk with close friends (those hardcore few!) back to the hotel for a chilled out drinks after-party. We stayed up til past 3.30am!”

The couple also had Frank Miller of Sassy n Frank to video their day…

Roni & Dave are currently on their honeymoon but I had to give them a quick appearance on Rock n Roll Bride – check out her awesome vintage brooch bouquet! I’ve been noticing a lot of brides have been forgoing real blooms of late, in favour of some more original, kooky ideas (think candy, feather, cotton, dried flowers, vintage jewellery and everything in between) Aren’t these gorgeous?

Roni scoured antique stores in the run up to their wedding and payed anywhere from $3 – $12 for each brooch and constructed the bouquet themselves. I understand their wedding and reception was a bit of a diy fest. too so I’m hoping to share it with you when they couple return.

What’s not to love about this shoot? Alex & Kaori’s downtown LA engagement session was the perfect expression of who they are as a couple – lovers of LA and fashion (they are both designers.) I will never stop loving the Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon shoes (I have them in yellow & black) and Alex’s fabulous red & white checked shirt and black bow tie combo. In fact this pair have got to be some serious fashion inspiration to at least a few of you!

Dena & Mark’s day after shoot is the optimisation of glamour! Their outfits and the London locations are spot on and the photography by the awesome Segerius Bruce really reflects and oozes alluring feel. The couple had a Jewish wedding which always tend to be held late on Sundays, so what with the wedding taking place in November, once the ceremony was done there was not much light for a portrait shoot. Doing a shoot a few weeks later worked out perfectly for everyone.
