Laurel and Ryan’s DIY pre-wedding shoot took place in Ryan’s parent’s back garden (which just happened to have a few acres of land behind it!) I utterly adore the acid neon brights fused with an Alice in Wonderland theme, all of which was created by the bride & groom themselves. They bought the cupcakes from a grocery store and created all of the flower centrepieces themselves, again from store bought flowers.

The bouquets and boutonnieres were professionally made, but for the most part the entire photo shoot was their own unique vision and craft.

Killer!

When Dianne & Andrew’s wedding landed smack bang in my inbox, alongside the email from their awesome photographer Jonathan Canlas which read “I think this wedding is RIGHT up your alley, 7 month’s pregnant bride and SUPER Rock n Roll” I was a little bit excited. Was I right to be? Hell YES baby!

I have to say, I’m actually a little bit honoured to feature this wedding. Not just because clearly the photographs and the wedding are gorgeous, but because the family appear to have gone through so much, yet come out happier and healthier on the other side. The bride explained;

“Wow, this turned into a huge undertaking answering all the questions.  I am glad that you asked them, because while you only will take the links from the answers, it forced me to write about my wedding which I had been putting off due to taking care of my baby and frankly, being so damn tired, this was the last thing I wanted to write about.  Which is sad, because the fact that my husband and I made it to a wedding day is no small feat.”

“In the last year, we have dealt with drug addiction, rehab, an accidental pregnancy, sobriety, a wedding, and a few weeks later, our son.  I loved answering all these questions because it reminded me that just because our situation is far from what is typically considered ideal, it is ideal for us, and I would not have changed a thing about it.  I will be sure to mention you on my blog, your site is a righteous reminder that where love and beauty can be found is not always on a magazine stand in the check out line.”

Humbling. So humbling.

Excuse me one second while I scream “EEEEEEEK!” at the top of my lungs, because that’s exactly how I felt when I first saw Laura & Harry’s eco-friendly, vintage-heavy, Rock n Roll inspired backyard wedding. Oh yes, I really do love to feature true Rock n Roll Bride weddings - ie weddings of those that I was able to help and inspire with my little blog. Laura & Harry actually found their fabulous photographer Rosie Parsons and Laura’s gorgeous vintage Fur Coat No Knickers dress after seeing them on the site. Yey!

The vintage theme was infused with A Midsummer’s Nights Dream/literary vibe. The ceremony was held outdoors and all the guests sat on benches in Laura’s Dad’s back garden in Devon. As part of the ceremony, Laura and Harry also planted a tree in the garden and invited all their guests to fill it in with earth which will give them a lasting memory for the two of them every time they visit Laura’s Dad.

I’ve discovered one of my new favourite photographers! So much in fact that I emailed him to ask for not one, not two, but THREE of his weddings to feature…so hold onto your hats because over the next few days you’re gonna see some serious awesome.

First up is Tony & Katie’s laid back, funky backyard wedding. Although the pair live in New York they opted to hold their wedding in Kentucky where all their family are based. They knew they didn’t want a traditional church wedding and luckily for them Katie’s grandparents allowed their home to play host to the celebrations.

Sarah & Kevin’s darling backyard wedding took place in a friend’s back garden in Arlington, Texas. The vintage-inspired theme with robin egg blue touches made for the perfect, personal picnic wedding. The day was styled by Revolution Garden and several of the wedding accessories (including the invitation, all hair accessories, the sign-in painting, and the decorated hat box) were hand-made by them as well. The whimsical bouquets made of all off-white and vanilla flowers and the boutonnieres were created by The T Shop. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Anthropologie and the bride’s dress was put together with thrift store shopping including Buffalo Exchange
