Remember this stunning film noir style shoot that I featured back in May? Well the couple Sami & Katherine are now getting married and who better to shoot their engagements at the amazingly bright Hirshhorn Museum (and upcoming wedding of course) than there friend Emily Porter?

“Sami’s socks are always crazy and mismatched and he shares my love of short doses of things – TV shows instead of movies, short stories instead of novels. He loves jazz. And probably once every few months he’ll message me asking for my photoshop “expertise” in making some crazy graphic for a tshirt. Once it was Sarah Palin’s face superimposed on a daisy. Most recently he asked me to photoshop a cape onto a picture of Ronald Reagan on a horse.”

“Their apartment is full of bookcases. Some of them are filled entirely with books on learning different languages because Katherine’s brain must always be taking in new information. She studies for fun. Katherine speaks with a thick New York accent and every time I visit her I get treated to the most wonderful of facial masks.”

Dena & Patrick’s wedding is certainly Rock n Roll to the max! I adore her cute shoes that show off her gorgeous foot tattoos  (I’m so shallow) and that fabulous dress which was Madison by Priscilla of Boston “It had a belt and pockets!” Dana told me ” so I just HAD to have it! I even kept my iphone in my pocket and snapped photos with it during the day” The bridesmaids matched the yellow and grey theme by wearing various grey dresses from Alfred Angelo. The pair were married in the oldest catholic church in Philadelphia (Old St. Joseph’s) and had their reception at an old bank that was the Philadelphia Real World House which has now been turned into an art gallery called Trust House.

Breaking The Mould

It’s such an honour to be the first blog to share this amazingly themed engagement session by Joy Marie! Karnis & Alex really wanted to break the pre-wedding shoot mould and so came up with the awesome creative concept of dressing up like some of their favourite iconic images and heroes. Who can you spot?

Thanks to Joy for sharing these with us!

Artistic

This fun, quirky, laid back engagement session perfectly reflects the couple in it. With a pair of artists as subjects - Kelsey, an art historian & Stephan, a painter - what other sort of engagement session would you expect than one like this? An artistic, calm and serene vision that’s what these are. I like them an awful lot.

Photographer Emily Garrick seriously rocked this session – thanks so much for sharing!

These landed in my inbox approximatly 20 minutes ago and as soon as I laid eyes on them I emailed the photographer Natasha back saying “omg I have to have these!” I think it’s pretty obvious why right?!
The wedding took place in glorious and uber stylish San Francisco.  The Bride is in fact a fashion designer and can’t you tell from her amazing dress/shurg/shoe combo…and a Groom with black nail varnish? Rock and Rooooll!
Thanks Natasha!

Small Town Art Scene

Just a quickie to get you going this morning…
These were send to me by Emily Garrick who flew to Texas for this fabulous shoot.

She describes her experience:
It really centers around a small town art scene. I flew to Texas for this wedding and had no idea where I was going to shoot. Luckily I stumbled anon a vibrant local art scene downtown and took advantage of it for the portraits. I was super lucky to have a bride & groom willing to try anything. Jarett & Julie are very southern, very polite & sweet, but with a southern rock edge to them. It was a treat to work with them and have them trust me completely. I also loved the contrast of his formal tux & her dress with the pin up girl.

Cute huh!?

I’m sure you remember Heather & Lucus’ fabulous vintage pin up stylee engagements?  Well even if you don’t I know you’re going to love their wedding photographs!  I am so honoured that Heather has send me these straight away and I am so excited to share these with you.

Heather describes their day:
The ceremony and reception was held at Squatters Brewery here in Salt Lake. We had a short, 6 minute ceremony that was funny and fit our personalities well. Our Australian friend got ordained and married us. My Dad wore a flamed hot rod tie to walk me down the isle in. I illustrated the two of us for a custom shot glass that was given to anyone that ordered a shot. We had an elaborate retro dessert table with my homemade cupcakes. (I am a self-proclaimed obsessed baker)
There was a retro photobooth for everyone to use, swing dancing, a themed ‘wedding cake’ shot that tasted like vanilla cake, and a cupcake tower. We also had our artist friends do illustrations of us, and framed them for display in the entry area. (I’ve included my favorite one in the folder) :) – By JJ Harrison of

My dress was a Pronovias gown that I bought on ebay for $300. Then I had it trimmed shorter, and had a jacket made to match it, by a girl on Etsy.com.

Thanks Heather, I am in love with your wedding!
