Amy & Nick’s wonderful South Austin wedding had a distinct and very individual theme – perfect for them! Big fans of Buddy Holly and late 50′s/early 60′s music, it was important to them to really have that as a big part of their wedding. Amy walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Every Day played live by a friend on the guitar. Nick waited to marry his sweetheart decked out in a grey suit, Buddy Holly glasses and his favorite pair of Converse. Amy wore a dress by Dolly Couture which was perfectly accented by a Magnolia flower created by Amy Barber of Sweettooth Bags.

This exceptional Rock n Roll style fashion shoot photographed by Jessica Monnich at Highball in Austin Texas hit me right between the eyes. I’ve fallen in love with the vintage 1950s rockabilly stylings, the gorgeous fashion, the stunning models, the bowling alley setting…well basically how damn cool the whole thing is! I’m so excited to share this shoot and all the people involved with you..you’re gonna love it!
Be sure to also check out Wild Orchid Studios‘ amazing video to accompany this set after the ‘jump’

“We went with a 50′s theme. The location was very hip swanky 50′s feeling bowling alley on South Lamar in a bowling alley here in Austin Texas called Highball. In keeping with the vintage theme we did a place setting in the color scheme of the shoot using fiestaware which was popular during that time period. We thought Wizard of Oz Pez dispensers would be fun as that was a popular movie during that time. We also had mock cakes made up for the shoot that had a very rockabilly feel to them as well. The “bride” carried a lotus flower surrounded by sweet peas and the “bridesmaids” carried a combination of flowers including pink sweet peas and poppies.”

Bonnie & Rod’s 195os inspired wedding was held at Malcolm’s Of Maleny in Queensland, Australia. When I asked photographer Julian what made this pair rock n roll, he had the perfect answer for me…

“Bonnie was born and raised in Australia and in short, is a singer. Rod was born and raised in Mississippi and had never been to Australia before — They met over the Internet through each other’s music, Rod being a Guitarist in a band without a singer. Bonnie was asked by Rod to record a singing part to a piece he had recorded. And the rest, as they say, is history. He flew over and met her, they dated and then, obviously, married. All because of Rock And Roll, literally.”

Rebecca & John’s summer wedding was so eclectic, so English and just so fabulously unique that I couldn’t wait to share it with you. Rebecca told me all about their ideas and inspiration behind their amazing day, so I’m just going to hand over to her for this one!

John didn’t want to get married in a church, as he is not religious so I had my heart set on getting married outside, because we felt there was a more powerful spirituality in the earth and nature that would bring us together with more meaning than just a civil ceremony. Almost a pagan idea I guess… The marriage scene at the end of Robin Hood Prince of thieves was a major inspiration!

We got married at Hedingham Castle, an 11th century fort in Essex, England. The castle were quite strict in what we could do so we put most of our effort into making the reception at Belchamp St Paul Community Hall, Suffolk, our own. We had said the ‘theme’ of the wedding would be ‘vintage inspired –from the 20s to the 50s’ on the invitation,  mainly because I love the fashions, music, style and glamour of those eras – but I suppose starting the proceedings in a Medieval castle fit in with ‘vintage as well.’

We felt it was really important that throughout the day everything should reflect who we were, rather than conforming to any idea of how weddings should be, Our whole wedding ethos was that it showed our personalities, as it was  day about us after all! and you don’t get a chance to do that again… many traditions stand the test of time because they are lovely traditions such as the cake, the rings and getting dressed up etc, but we didn’t want it to be a generic cookie cutter wedding – and many people said that it showed, it couldn’t have been anyone else’s wedding!

Uniquely Chic

Amanda & Nick has a super chic, totally personal, 1950′s inspired wedding. From Amanda’s cute polka dot dress from Unique Vintage to the beautiful retro style photography by Made u Look Photography (which even included one roll of black & white film from an old film camera – remember those!?) the whole day ooooozes authentic, rockabilly charm.  The rest of the wedding party’s clothing came from Daddyo’s and Stop Staring Clothing and everyone got pumped and ready for the big day by listening to classic rock n roll music. I just know you’re going to love it!
