Store owner Joanne tells us, “Clients can book a appointment (which is free and absolutely no obligation to order), and with that booking they get our undivided attention for a one to one appointment, we go through their ideas and plans for the wedding , and then get to work playing dress up , trying on gowns to get ideas about lines, shapes silhouettes and fabrics. We are not precious about our gowns that we are not willing to embrace each brides individuality, we are happy to input the clients ideas and discuss how we can make them work and bring them to life.  Its very inspiring meeting our clients and we draw on lots of ideas into the melting pot. Whether it is interpreting a clients idea of her gob-smacking gown or if its just to add a flash of colour or embellished jiggery pokery to an existing gown in our collection we embrace it all. We have designed many different styles of gowns in many different colours that is hard to pinpoint a particular style or type of gown….although we do particularly favour a nipped waist and a curved hip.”

Leslie & Paul’s retro, picnic engagement took place at Bartram Gardens which is a historical landmark and the oldest botanical garden in the U.S. Leslie is a hair stylist so it was obvious that their hair would look fabulous but they also went all out with the props and styling to create a really authentic 1940′s – 50′s vibe.

Norma & David’s wedding was all about the individual retro touches. In love with the art deco vibe of the 1920s and 30s, the pair used this as their inspiration – choosing to be inspired by and go with the flow of the theme rather than being restricted by it. “We wanted a vintage feel, as I am in love with art deco, 20′s and 30′s music/style/art/film” Norma told me. “As an artist the visual ‘flow’ was more important to me than being “matchy matchy”, or sicking to a theme. We like an eclectic look and things with character…we were hoping to create an elegant, whimsical, romantic, sensual feel.”

The couple got married at White Album Wedding Chapel in Chilliwack, an 1886 wedding chapel, restored with old wooden doors, and an old church bell which is actually owned by their photographers! “A few years ago we accidentally found the chapel for sale” Elizabeth & Mark explain. ”When we walked into the little white heritage church along a narrow country road and saw the worn hardwood floors, wooden doors with old door knobs,  tall windows and an old church bell, we fell  in love. It’s a great place to run our photography business and a beautiful place for two people in love to get married!”

Norma wore a dress and catherdal length veil from ‘Treat Bridal’ in Langley and Fluevog shoes. David’s green shirt and zebra tie were found at Le Chateau and gave him such much needed pizazz! Norma designed her own bouquet and used iris and peacock feathers to get the look she was after.

I literally couldn’t think of a more apt title for this post as when I saw Mary & Adam’s 1930s/40s themed bridal shoot I squeeeeealed in my email reply to photographers Jessica & Chelsea , ’Oh these are so incredible, I can’t wait to blog them!’

“We had been planning this shoot for months but just needed the right two people to do it” the guys told me. ”As you can see, Adam and Mary were perfect for the shoot.  We actually had the wedding dress made for Mary by a local seamstress for $100 (including the cost of the fabric).  So, we loaded up and headed to Denison, TX.  Our plan was to shoot at the Old Dennison Hotel, but when we got there we found some other amazing places to shoot as well.  The town is so weird.  It seems like it once was a booming little town (like in the early part of the 1900′s), but then as it started to crumble, no one ever fixed it or tore down the old buildings; instead they just built all these modern structures around it.  It just feels kind of forgotten, but it was really perfect for our shoot. One of the places we shot was this adorable little 50′s diner and malt shop complete with old gas pumps, a juke box, and checkered floors! It’s called Peggy Sue’s 50′s Diner and Ice Cream Parlor.  As for the Denison hotel…
