Same Sex Wedding

I don’t post that many videos on their own as I’ll be honest, it takes a pretty damn good video to keep my attention for more than a few seconds. Angel & Lilly’s Save the Date however is in a whole other league of radness. I love them!

The couple, who made their own video are already married in their eyes (although legally they are ‘domestic partners’ – stupid Californian same sex marriage laws) as last October the two of them headed down to city hall to do the paperwork followed by an In-N-Out burger!

“It was just the two of us” Angel told me. ”After that was taken care of we went to In-N-Out for lunch, it’s sort of a Valentine’s Day tradition for us so it seemed like the perfect place to celebrate. Then we spent that night at a friend’s Halloween party in our zombie garb. Perfect end to a perfect day. The whole thing was very laid back, but we’re excited to get to celebrate with our friends and family this year.” They plan to do it all again on their anniversary this October and so made this video to invite all their friends & family to their pre-Halloween, circus/carnival themed wedding.

If this video is anything to go by their wedding is going to be seriously awesome! Thanks for sharing it girls!

Sue & Shonagh actually got married in May 2008, however following the sad passing of Sue’s Mum Hilary to Cancer just recently, with the full co-operation of the couple, both myself and photographer Caroline thought it would be a fitting tribute to share their whimsical and wonderful wedding with you today.

Sue (in the tartan dress) and Shonagh (in the blue dress) were neighbours of Caroline and as soon as she heard the couple we getting married she jumped at the chance to photograph it. Another friend, who also lived in the same building, Vonny Mullock, made both the brides’ dresses. Sue got ready in their flat and Shonagh got married in Vonny’s flat. The couple met on the landing between when they were both ready and headed out together to get married.

Who Needs a Bride!?

Gay wedding, Civil partnership, Wedding…the terminology doesn’t mean s*** to me. A wedding is a wedding and that’s that. The amazingly glam Brighton wedding of Matt & Leon was sent over by their photographer Lisa Devlin and I lapped up all the gorgeous details…who needs a bride!?

Leon & Matt got married on the anniversary of when they met and they day was a pretty memorable one! They squeezed into a stretch Hummer with their 8 bridesmaids, 3 flowergirls and the ring bearer for the short journey to Stanmer House near Brighton. Their ceremony was conducted by candlelight by a Registrar called Mr Love (!) and featured some incredible live singers.

Beautiful Brides

Not only have I been lucky enough to be sent a whole lot of amazing same sex weddings recently, but I’ve received emails from readers who have been loving the posts, so it is with great pleasure that I present Erin & Lauren’s beautiful wedding today. I really love the simple, clean lines of their dresses and all the emotion behind these images. Be sure to also check out their slideshow after the ‘jump’.

Intimate.

It’s been a while since I’ve featured anything from Rock n Roll Bride favourite Tinywater, but Shay & Jenelle’s sweet and intimate little wedding has changed all that. What a perfect girlie afternoon it must have been.

Beautiful Birds

Laura & Gena whimsical & elegant wedding took place at the historic Moody Mansion in Galveston. They added delicious personal and fun touches which fitted in with the bird theme such as lots of vintage bird details to put around the ceremony and reception, including flowers in antique bird cages.  They had formal elements like flocked damask programs, Chivari chairs, a string trio and two topiary junipers which were contrasted with ideas such as little stuffed birds on the cocktail tables and an owl on the sign in table. Both brides wore dresses by Nicole Miller.

Equal Love

Yesterday Equal Love protests took place all over Australia for the 5th year running. Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Hobart and Canberra all hosted events.  Their mission is to change public opinion on gay marriage in their country through education and direct action. Yesterday was a landmark event for them, thousands of people showed up to each venue to witness hundreds of gay and lesbian couples commit their lives to each other in technically illegal ceremonies right in front of these cities’ courthouses.

Photographer Jessie Broome of J Studios attended the Melbourne event and alongside 4000 others, witnessed 65 couples commit their lives to each other.

I personally believe this is a wonderful cause and I fully support the rights of gay couples to marry. I would just like to add that this is not a sponsored post of any kind and that have not been paid to write this article. Jessie sent me the link and I knew I’d have to share it with you all. I feel very strongly that prejudice against gay relationships or marriage is fundamentally wrong and hope though my little blog, I can hopefully highlight this fantastic cause to a few more people.

Thans to Jessie for sharing the cause with us and for allowing us to use her images from the event.

One Big Party

Aly & Elroi’s wedding was described by the couple as ‘one of the most magical days of our lives’ A day filled with such a fun party vibe and one where all their friends and family pulled together to help them achieve the wedding of their dreams.

Just a few examples of their amazing friends who helped out include, both their outfit’s being made by a friend of theirs who lives in New York and another friend made and travelled with their amazing wedding cake all the way from Texas! They had another friend cater for them and some other friends who made the invitations.

Funny and persoanal anecdotes are what makes wedding like this great, and Aly spoke about their impromptu (and hilarious) bridal shower…
So, I went to the coffee shop to meet them, got my coffee, sat down and realized that everyone was being weirdly quiet as I babbled and babbled. So, I stopped and was like, “What’s going on? Why aren’t y’all so quiet?” And my friend Lindsey says, “Well, I’m just going to tell you. You’re kidnapped.”
“Huh?”

Danielle, my MOH, shouts “Get in the car. I’m not gonna tell you twice!” (She was trying to be tough-sounding in a hilarious way.)

So I was handed a clue that I had to decipher to tell them where we were going to. I was like, “Wait- you’re kidnapping me but I have to tell you where to take me?”

Danielle: “Don’t ask questions!” Ha!

So I figured out that the place the clue was talking about was the place Elroi proposed. So we went there and took pictures that would be left as a clue for Elroi, who has also unknowingly been kidnapped from our house by his side of the wedding party.

(Side note: Elroi was actually kidnapped right in the middle of washing our dogs. So, Danielle’s boyfriend who had been helping at the house took over dog-washing duties. As El’s friends were leaving with him, Macauley, our rascally cake-maker instructed Danielle’s boyfriend to just “wash as many dogs as you can.”

Every time I solved a clue, I got a present–so it was also like a surprise shower. I couldn’t believe I didn’t know anything about it and I felt so loved that all these people would plan something so elaborate and fun for us.

Thanks to Aly & Elroi for sharing their gorgeous wedding and story!

The reader’s survey has now closed. I will be announcing the winner and sharing some of the results later on today. However reader, Sari said I should be featuring more rock n roll lesbians, which of course I would love too – but it all depends on what I’m sent or what I find on my wedding hunts.  However today you are in luck, as photographer Stephen Loewinsohn send me this gorgeous, and stylish lesbian wedding just yesterday!

Stephen said:
These brides have tons of rockstar style and swagger, and their wedding was just gorgeous in every way. From the amazing outdoor setting, to the beautiful and delicious food, awesome outfits, and just the feeling of love in the air, this was just a really special wedding.

As you know, same-sex marriages are no longer legally recognized in the state of California, but these brides love each other so much that they decided to go ahead and have an awesome wedding anyway. I’m a strong believer in marriage equality as believe you are too. This wedding was an act of rebellion against a stupid law, and what’s more rock ‘n’ roll than rebellion?

Definitely rock n roll and definitely beautiful! Thank you so much Stephen!
