Geek Chic

March 30, 2010

I have been dying to feature a photo shoot by Flory Photo in ages, and I think Curtis & Vali’s shoot has given me the perfect opportunity. Photographer and friend Joel Flory actually shot their wedding back in 2002 – his first – and being such great friends with this pair, this shoot was extra special to them all.

Is anyone else as crazy about those geek-chic glasses as I am!? So. Much. Fun!  His suit was Express for Men and her dress was an 8yr old Jessica McClintock that she wore on their wedding day.

New Contest – Tattoo Inspired Jewellery!

May 9, 2009

This Contest Is Now Closed

Don’t you just love free stuff? When I clapped eyes on Etsy seller, WickedMinky’s tattoo inspired jewellery I knew I had to have some and I knew they would make a fabulous prize!  So I bought myself a cuuute unicorn necklace and a swallow hair clip and I have to say they are absolutely gorgeous – so cute, so original, so rock n roll!  So maybe you wouldn’t actually wear these on your wedding day, but I know full well many of you may not be getting married for quite some time – so it’s nice to have a new toy to play with in between then and now right?

WickedMinky has donated this gorgeous little diamond necklace…OK so it’s not real diamonds, but I pretty much think a tattooed style diamond is the next best thing! (The amazing bird hairclip is mine I’m afraid..I also bought this unicorn…LOVE!)

I thought long and hard about the competition question for this contest, and actually The Husband came up with this one…I want to know What is your favourite inspiring wedding photograph ever and why?! I want to know which photograph you saw and just thought “wow!” The one you kept going back to, the one you immediately saved into your ‘wedding’ folder (I know we all have them!) It can be a photograph you found here on Rock n Roll Bride or it can be one you found elsewhere (please please please include photo credit with your entry if possible)

And you know what, just because I am aaalll about the sharing, this contest is not just open to Brides-to-be, if you’re a photographer and want to share your favourite ever wedding photograph please feel free! You can enter as many times as you like, but please – one entry/photograph per comment.

I’ve been going though my archives to find my favourite and I have found it really bloody hard to choose just one…so I’ve chickened out and gone for a selection just to get you started…

Personal, Intimate, Stunning

January 15, 2009

Loralie and Kevin had a beautifully personal ceremony on the rooftop of the Art Institute in San Francisco followed by a wonderfully intimate reception at Florio, a restaurant in the city (love this idea by the way – and surprisingly cost effective + guaranteed good food!)

However I am just so superficial, for me it’s all about Loralie’s amazing custom dress (hence all the photographs), designed and made by Joyce Hittelsdorf of Something Wonderful, in her small studio in Carmel, Indiana.  For more of the gorgeous ceremony/reception check out the photographer’s website.

Take me to City Hall

August 11, 2010

I have a lot of love for cute, intimate and quirky wedding stories right now and Kristen & Alex’s super stylish affair is no different. The pair had ceremony, just the two of them, at San Francisco City Hall followed by a small reception at Orson Restaurant, where they decided to have another small dedication ceremony in front of their gathered friends and family. “My favorite moments were the separation of the ceremonies” Kristen told me. “We had stressed for months on how to please both ourselves and our families (we wanted to elope, they didn’t want us to) The idea of 2 ceremonies was the perfect solution. My favorite tradition was the fact that we were so non-traditional. It took me a while while planning to realize that we had the freedom to do things the way we wanted, there was no rule that we had to do things in a certain way.”

The bride wore an ivory bridesmaids dress by Coren Moore with shoes by an Australian brand called Wittner that she had picked up on a trip to Sydney. Her veil, bolero and earrings all came from various Etsy sellers and her gorgeous  bracelet was Marc Jacobs. She pulled everything together with a vintage style clutch and a bright pop of colour with her red rose bouquet.
