Kristi and Doug met through Kristi’s best friend Amanda. Doug called Kirsti his unicorn because he thought she was a mythical creature that he’d never be able to have, but luckily she totally fell in love with him too! Their wedding theme was nautical, with a vintage classic feel, and they were inspired by anchors, rope and cool classic colours.

Their wedding ceremony was held at 7,500 feet overlooking the Lake Tahoe Mountains and Carson Valley. “The whole day was perfect, but our favourite part was the ceremony,” began Kristi. “It was so emotional and extremely intimate. Having all of our family and friends there sharing in such a vulnerable moment with us left us feeling an so high.”

“We wanted to incorporate everyone’s individual personalities and styles into the wedding so everyone felt comfortable with themselves without having to fit into a specific wedding cookie cutter mold.”

Their biggest expense was the venue, The Ridge at Tahoe Resort. “It was so worth it!”, she continued, “and we actually saved a lot by having a package that everything was worked into. If we’d had to get every vendor individually the cost would have climbed a lot faster.”

“The one thing we wish we’d known about planning a wedding before we began is how insane it is!” she laughed. “People always tell you planning a wedding is crazy, but man they were sugar coating it! We never realised how many little details and tweaks you needed to make in order to make everything run smoothly. We could not have done it without Doug’s mother, she is our fairy godmother!”

“The only thing we would have done differently is go to bed earlier the night before. We were just having so much fun partying and hanging out with friends and family we lost track of time!”

“Our advice for future brides and grooms is to go for your dream wedding! Even if you think it might not be in your budget there are ways to make things happen at a lesser cost. Have fun planning with each other and choosing things together and don’t be afraid to speak up if you are unhappy with something or need something changed: Communication is key. It’s so important to have an amazing photographer to capture your special intimate moments. This is the most special day of your life and you deserve your picture perfect! Most importantly have fun don’t sweat the small stuff and remember the powerful love you have for each other.”
