Mandy and Ally LOVE the movies, so when they came to plan their November wedding it was the obvious choice. This was confirmed when they realised they could have their ceremony at the Glasgow Film Theatre!

“I honestly don’t think we would have had a wedding like this if it wasn’t for Rock n Roll Bride”, began Mandy. “Before I found this blog I was thinking it would be in a chapel followed by a meal at a hotel. Whilst this is lovely for some people, it just didn’t feel right for us. We’re both huge movie buffs and go to the GFT every Christmas to watch It’s a Wonderful Life, so when we were looking around for the perfect venue I felt like I had nothing to lose by asking if we could use the cinema. To my surprise, they said they’d hosted a few weddings over the years and, thanks to the great Scottish law, we were legally married there!”

“Prior to my arrival the ushers handed out popcorn cones and we played a slideshow of the bridal party which included a picture of the absentee bridesmaid, my dog Skye. This was followed by a short clip from Muriel’s Wedding of Muriel walking down the aisle to ABBA. We then played another short clip from 10 Things I Hate About You of Heath Ledger singing ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’.”

The reception was completely decorated by the couple, using all their own movie memorabilia from home. Their tables were named after some of their favourite films. “All the centrepieces were from our personal figurine collection apart from vases which were bought from Home Bargains. We made a videotape table plan and the movie table posters, using our faces in place of the movie stars, were made for us by a friend. The top table was It’s A Wonderful Life.”

Other unique details included the bride’s paper flower bouquet made of comic books and the bridesmaid dresses which were from Miss Lottie Lou using a fabric with scenes from The Walking Dead on it. “My dress was actually a top and two skirts by Miss Lottie Lou. My main outfit was inspired by Kelly Osbourne’s high low dress at the 2015 Oscars. In the evening I changed into the shorter skirt and had a ‘Mrs O’Neill’ necklace and ‘Mandy & Ally’ earrings from Sugar & Vice and a leather jacket from New Look to which I added Foo Fighters patches!”

“The one thing I wish I’d known about planning a wedding was that it really isn’t stressful if you give yourself plenty of time and do what you want to do”, she concluded. “We had a really fun experience. My advice to other couples would be to really enjoy your day. Make sure you take a step back and spend some time just the two of you to help process everything. It can be quite overwhelming, but it really can be the best day if you allow yourself to just go with the flow.”
