There’s something so unique about weddings in New Orleans. The traditions of the city are rarely seen elsewhere, making this a really special place to say “I do”. Wesley and Allison travelled from Memphis to tie the knot there in March.

“Initially, I wanted my wedding to feel like you just stepped into a garden party from the Edwardian era”, Allison told me. “When we decided last minute to cancel all of our plans and have the wedding in New Orleans, we knew we would be able to get away with adding lots of confetti, crystals and champagne… because New Orleans is bright and fun and magical!”

The ceremony took place at Gentry House, a bed and breakfast where they also all stayed. Afterwards the Storyville Stompers Brass Band accompanied the entire wedding party to their reception venue, Vacherie restaurant. “Our ceremony was really special”, she said, “and we wrote our own vows. However hands down, the brass band was THE BEST part of our day. Specifically, seeing my grandmother, who had recently battled and won a fight against breast cancer, march (with much swagger I must say) in that parade!!! However, Wesley’s vows were a close second.”

“The entire wedding was DIY”, she continued. “Thanks to this we were able to invest in the important things (such as food, the brass band and our photographer) while still achieving the beautifully cluttered ceremony I dreamed of. We had lots of brass candle sticks, candles and dried flowers. I also carried a dried flower bouquet, just like my mother had when she got married. Instead of a typical reception, we had a FANTASTIC dinner at Vacherie and then went bar hopping (because we’re classy folks).”

“In the beginning, we were planning a Memphis wedding because it was more convenient for our friends and family”, the bride concluded. “But nothing, no matter how beautiful we could have made it, compared to getting married in the city we love. I’m so glad we didn’t compromise on our dream wedding to please other people. We really appreciate all of our loved ones who travelled to New Orleans for us. We love you all so much!!”
