A dairy farm in South Africa was the location for Philip and Lily’s steampunk wedding. Wearing a unique dress and thrifted accessories, the bride planned the day to reflect their mutual love of their chosen theme.

“Initially the wedding was just inspired by the steampunk theme”, said the bride. “Although, as I worked for about a year on pulling everything together, the end product seemed to combine steampunk with DIY and Alice in Wonderland! I wanted it our wedding to be a little bit fantastical without making it look like a Halloween dress up party. We wanted things quite simple and pretty.”

“The majority of the wedding was DIY”, she explained. “I wanted to keep the budget as low as possible and, being a creative at heart, I enjoyed every moment of creating the wedding. All the stationery (invitations, save the dates, menus , posters and thank you cards) were designed by me. All the décor was entirely homemade, and put together with bits and pieces purchased at low prices. We had just 50 guests which also kept the costs low.

“One of the best parts of the day was the ceremony in the barn. My English Bulldog, Fry, came waddling in with our rings. I was so happy to be able to have him there, even if it was only for a short while.”
