Angela and Richard were married at The Reading Rooms in Berkswell in May. The groom manages a hotel and sees expensive and impersonal weddings every week, so this couple certainly knew what they didn’t want for their day. What they did want simply evolved from the things they love.

“We really didn’t have a theme. I love all things old and dusty but we really didn’t want to have a vintage wedding”, Angela explained. “We’re both quite childish too. We’re not very serious people and I think that was reflected in our wedding. There were elements of all the things we both love. There’s a nod to Sci-fi with our choice of date – International Star Wars Day (although I’m Trek and he’s Wars); our Comic book invite with some of our favourite films and characters featured – Bud and his zombie pals from Day of the Dead, a Martian from War of the Worlds and of course Darth. We had Lego minifig favours; everyone knows we’re big kids when it comes to Lego.”

“The music was al really important to us, as well as getting all our guests to make song requests on the RSVP, we had an awesome band to bang out tunes that everyone would dance too, they said they’d never witnessed a conga during their set before and I think they had as much fun as we did! Richard and I love bustin’ some moves, we left the church bopping to Kiss!”

Angela wore a vintage dress from Abigail’s Vintage Bridal. “When searching for the all important dress I had convinced myself that I would never find the original 1950s, boat-neck, full sleeved lace number I had always dreamed of”, she explained. “I was so lucky; Abigail of Abigail’s Vintage Bridal was amazing. It was only the second place I had visited. My dress was the first I tried on at Abigail’s and it’s true what they say, you just know. Having squeezed and wiggled my way in to a number of frocks previously, my dress slipped on like it was made for me.”

The couple saved a lot of money by DIYing a lot, but one thing they knew they didn’t want to scrimp on was the photographer. “We hate having our picture taken although do love a silly face photo. We were worried that we would have hundreds of photos of us pulling stupid faces, but Bethan made us so relaxed and comfortable with the whole process. We really connected from our first meeting and it made it so much easier knowing that Bethan really got us. One of our most special moments was the 10 minutes we managed to snatch away from the madness. We collected our Fish n chips and went and sat in the bus stop, it was magical, just us. Everyone tell you it’s a really important thing to do, grab time to yourselves, and it really is. For those 10 minutes we were the only people in the world.”
