When Gareth & I were married waaaay back in 2008, having a wedding video was low on our list of priorities. I know – what fools we were! But weddings can be bloomin’ expensive and when it came down to it, we just couldn’t stretch our already exceeded budget any further. However these days, couples on a budget have so many more options and the lovely folks at Storymix Media are leading the way.
Their clever free mobile app (available for iPhone & Android - woohoo!) allows all your guests to film parts of your wedding journey (all the way from the hen do through to the wee hours of the morning after the wedding!) on their phones. Then they can seamlessly upload directly to Storymix Media who will edit together the best bits for you! Now, clearly, a video filmed by your Aunt Fran isn’t going to be comparable to hiring a professional videographer, BUT if you want to capture every Rock n Roll moment through your friend’s eyes or your budget just won’t stretch, then this is a seriously cool option.
We have very little video from our wedding, but one of my BFFs did film me walking down the aisle… and oh god, I feel the same nerves and anticipation watching this back as I did all that time ago!
And we’re married!
Ahhh how cute and young are we!? And yes… I had brown hair and Gareth has a shaved head. Oh how times change! But I digress…
If, unlike us, you’d like more than just a couple of shaky video clips of your big day, you’ve gotta check out Storymix Media. The mobile app is free (so everyone at your wedding can download it) and editing packages start from $99. They also have packages that include HD flip video cameras (available for US & Canadian customers only) which they loan you in case you don’t have a smart phone – and they’ll even let you take one on your honeymoon!
Another awesome thing about having your friends and family film your wedding is the undoubted hilarity that will ensue because the funny things they capture (you know what kind of shenanigans I’m talking about!) that a pro just wouldn’t. We have some seriously funny and embarrassing videos from our wedding filmed by my bridesmaids after everyone else had gone to bed… and no I CAN NOT share it online (!!) but oh how we laughed for days!
I mean, look what we could have had if we’d used Storymix Media – something much more impressive!
