Red, Polka Dots & An Ice Cream Van – A Budget-Friendly DIY Wedding: Kelly & Matt

With a budget of just £8500, Kelly & Matt pulled of a wedding that perfectly encapsulated everything about them. From the cute red colour scheme, the DIY details and the relaxed photography, their wedding was one to remember. “We did absolutely everything ourselves for as little money as possible!,” began the bride. “We wanted the day to represent us as a couple and to be really personal. We wanted to make it a really relaxed atmosphere and make sure all our guests and we had fun. The theme was slightly retro, with red as the main colour set around black and white polka dots and loads of red love hearts! Everything looked exactly as we had imagined and seeing it all for the first time was one of my favourite parts of the day. All the details looked amazing and we were glad we put so much time and effort into them.”

The bride bought three dresses (third time lucky!) before finding her perfect gown. “The first was ordered online from America and was not the size described”, she explained, “the second was a ‘settle for’ dress and then I fell in love with the third and final dress which only arrived a week before the wedding!! It was by Marc Le Carr – the ‘Kelly’ dress – and I got it from Berketex Brides in Bristol.”

The couple also wanted to have a few surprises throughout the wedding for their guests to enjoy. After the wedding breakfast, an ice cream truck showed up for dessert, which also provided some great photo ops as well as being a delicious alternative. Then for the entertainment they had ‘bandeoke’ which, to their delight, everyone got involved in!

Big B’s Ices provided the ice cream van for after the meal. Also for our favours we had some mini photo cards made from Moo with each guests photo on as their name place, we also had our invitations printed from here and our thank you cards… I love Moo! As gifts for the bridesmaids they had name necklaces from Miss Cake (who also made our cake topper) and a Tatty Devine necklace for my maid of honour. For our drinks reception we had Mojitos rather than champagne and these went down a treat!”

Gorgeous! Thank you so much to Kelly & Matt for sharing their wedding with us today!

Congratulations! Your wedding looked fab! I have just ordered the same dress as yours from Berketex in Glasgow for my wedding next August. I was just wondering how you found the sizing of the dress? I am so worried because I am a size 18-20 just now but I know I will be a 14-16 for the wedding. The woman in the store was trying to make me order a size 20 which I know for a fact will be way too big by next year so I settled for an 18. Do you think it will be too big for me if I am a size 16?

Any advice would be much appreciated :) x

    Hey Lynsey,
    Thank you :)
I hope you have more luck with yours than mine, It only arrived a week before the wedding ( on the date Berketex had AS the wedding!!
I found I had to have mine taken in – mad rush! Its a really easy fitting dress, no fussy corset etc and I am a size 16, I seem to remember they ordered me an 18 which was fine, just needed pulling in at the waist.
If you know you’ll be a size 16 then I would say to order an 18, wedding dresses are always a size out. Why they like to make us feel fat and insecure on our big day I will never know!
It’s a beautiful dress and you’ll enjoy wearing it, make sure you have fab shoes!
Also can you let me know something – as I was the first to order this dress from Berketex they told me they were going to name it after me, please let me know if they have because that would be lovely :)

Alternatively you could always cancel your order and buy my dress :p

    xx

    Hi Kelly,

Thank you so much for replying! Firstly, you will be pleased to know they have named the dress after you! :)

From what you have said I reckon the dress should fit me perfectly, I just need to keep going to the gym for the next few months! I would have gladly cancelled my order and bought yours but my mum has paid the dress off in full and she would be gutted at losing the deposit. Thank you for the offer though, if only I had known before I ordered :(

I’m really worried about the dress not arriving on time as I have heard so many horror stories about Berketex not delivering dresses before the big day. To make it worse, I stupidly told them the real date of my wedding. I might try and tell them we’ve had to have the date changed…

Finally, I have bought VERY sparkly shoes too!! I did this before I saw this website so it turns out we must have very similar tastes :D

Thanks again for replying so quickly.

    Lynsey xxx
