Jennifer & Ian’s vintage garden engagement shoot is just so British – I love it! The slightly damp weather, the funky patterned wellies, the wheelbarrow and the greenhouse… I’m very much looking forward to seeing this couple’s vintage themed Scottish wedding in May and I hope photographer Fjona will be sending the images straight over to me afterwards – think VW van, Scottish tablet in jam jars, old fashioned luggage labels and more wellies. It’s going to be awesome I’m sure!

A Farm Engagement Shoot: Jo & James

I was married at 24, which is pretty young really, so I was by far the first of my friends to tie the knot. But now, getting scarily close to 30 (as Gareth likes to kindly tell me. Oi! I'm only 28 buster!) a lot of my friends are now walking down the aisle too. EXCITING.
So when Jo, who I used to work with at the shopping channel, got engaged to James, I was straight in there with my recommendations and ideas for her wedding... in fact I'm probably verging on annoying about the whole thing. But for Jo, wedding photographer David McNeil was the obvious choice. He also used to work at said shopping channel (!) and feeling comfortable in front of the camera was super important to Jo & James. David is a wizz at this. I can vouch for him.
"I was quite apprehensive before the shoot as I just wanted it to be perfect", Jo explained. "I know James isn't keen on having his photo taken (I'm not so bothered!) so I was nervous we wouldn't get any decent photos of us both, then when it came to the wedding day I'd be constantly stressing about it! But I need not have worried. David made us feel really comfortable from the get go. There was no awkward posing or cheesy smiles... it all felt really natural, which really shows in the photos (I think!) In the end we both really enjoyed the whole experience, we're both extremely happy with the photos... David was awesome and I can't wait to see what he does for the wedding! I'd definitely recommend an engagement shoot to any couple that are getting married as it prepares you for the big day."

A Food Fight Engagement Shoot: Kim & Phil

Kim & Phil were the lucky couple who won an engagement and video shoot with Assassynation, Sassy n Frank and Elbie Van Eeden. Their idea for a crazy shoot was a food fight as Kim explained in her entry,
"We got engaged on 1st April 2011, yes you heard right, April Fool's Day, and with this in mind we would like to continue our personalities and character traits in an engagement shoot. The theme I see is a food fight, with bright and colourful food such as cupcakes, hotdogs, condiments (almost American food style) between myself and my fiancé."

Retro Art Deco Kitsch

I LOVE a bit of retro kitsch and Caroline & Jim couldn't be more perfect at pulling this off if they tried. The shoot took place in their own Art Deco apartment in Brighton (just check out the exterior shots!) which has been decorated with an eclectic mix of bits and bobs collected from all over and ranging in era from the 1920's right through to the 1970's. I adore everything from the authentic mirror, clocks and Princess Anne collectible mugs to the incredible wallpaper and all the retro furniture.
Jim is 'Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer' , a brilliant musician playing all over the country at gigs, weddings, parties and festivals. Caroline has a complete passion for fashion as she works in the fashion industry in London. The pair both embrace everything retro and nostalgic in fashion and styling, so their style was spot on for this style of shoot. The couple both wore all their own clothes to give a completely genuine portrayal of themselves and who they are as a couple.

Laundrette Lovers

I've always loved laundrette photo sessions so when Brighton photographer Joanna Brown sent me this set I couldn't wait to share it...
"I have been living in quirky Kemptown in Brighton for some time and have always had my eye on the Laundrette round the corner thinking it would be perfect location for a shoot" Joanna told me. "I have always thought that there is something quite lovely and romantic about laundrettes; the sound of the machines quietly whirling that combined with complete strangers just hanging out sharing a really mundane chore. So I have been patiently waiting for my opportunity to arrive and hey presto a lovely couple got in touch and I could not quite believe it. Laura and Rikki met whilst studying at Bath University and had seen each other around the campus; at the bar, in the library and also spied each other at the local laundrette; after sometime Rikki finally asked Laura out and the rest is history. They are simply an adorable couple who have a great sense of humour, Rikki even took Laura on one of their first dates to a Laundrette (how romantic). We had a hoot at the Laundrette (I think some of the regulars thought we were balmy) especially when Laura lay on the floor for one of the shots; hey it is Brighton though anything goes!"

Amy & Darren are a gorgeous, fun and music-loving couple who are getting married this June in the New Forest. The idea for their engagement shoot was just to follow them having fun and sharing the things they love. "We started the shoot at their place in Blackheath, London" photographer Sarah told me "with me shooting from the mezzanine down on them lying amongst a fraction of their 5000-strong record collection, even Martha the cat wanted a piece of the action!"
"Next, we took a trip up the road to take advantage of the gorgeous evening light at the May bank holiday fair on Blackheath, finishing with a stroll through Greenwich Park to the bandstand which holds a romantic significance to them as a couple as it's where they spent a lot of time together when they first started courting."
